My mom and I are avid listeners of This American Life, a weekly radio show on NPR, and Mike Birbiglia has been a contributor to the show on multiple occasions. Mike Birbiglia is a stand-up comedian based out of New York City who has appeared on Comedy Central, all the late night talk shows, and now has an off-Broadway show called Sleepwalk with Mike, which is being produced by Nathan Lane. He’s hysterical–so if he’s performing in your area, it’s well worth the price of admission! Ironically, I worked for Mike Birbiglia’s sister-in-law, Carolyn Birbiglia–Joe Bags’ wife for any of you familiar with Mike’s comedy–at Penguin Group  so I was introduced to Mike’s comedy back in 2003 (wow–I can’t believe that’s already six years ago).

I had downloaded two of Mike Birbiglia’s comedy shows, My Secret Public Journal and Two Drink Mike, a while back when I was going on a road trip to Vermont and needed some entertainment in the car.  My mom really enjoyed his segments on This American Life. So, on day twelve of my 29-day giving challenge, I finally got around to burning a CD of each of these shows for my mother.  I think she’ll enjoy them!
