Life Lessons from Jack Bauer

The much hyped seventh season of 24 started this week. I am a HUGE fan of 24 (although, I am still watching season 6 on DVD as I have other priorities like The Hills, Weeds, Dexter, True Blood, Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, The Mentalist, 30 Rock, Life — you get the picture) and like many other Americans, I’m obsessed with Jack Bauer.

Even though I know Jack Bauer is a fictitious character created to entertain millions of Americans and make LOTS of money for the Fox Network, I still think we can learn a few things from Jack.  I’ve cobbled together some life lessons I’ve learned from Jack Bauer here:

1. Actions speak louder than words. Though shouting can be effective  as well.

2. Never, ever take a phone call on a pay phone in an scary, empty warehouse when you have a perfectly good cell phone in your hand — the Chinese will be waiting to abduct you.

3. If you shoot a man’s wife in the knee and he still doesn’t give you the information you want, he’s bad news.

4. Find your Chloe.  She will never let you down and she will always patch you through.

5. When questioning anyone, ask questions loudly and repeat them several times. You will get your answers.

6. The means justify the ends, even though you may be the only one alive at the END.

7. Don’t venture into the mountains around Los Angeles at night.  A mountain lion will be waiting to attack you.

8. It is totally possible to kick a heroin habit while stopping a madman from releasing a deadly virus that will kill thousands of people.

9. When you think you have no time left and everyone tells you that you are out of time, you still have some time.

10. You absolutely can go 24 hours without eating, drinking, sleeping or using the restroom.

And with this new seventh season already underway, I’m sure there are many more lessons we can learn from Jack Bauer. If you have more Jack Bauer life lessons, I’d love to hear them!
