Fighting Poverty with Christmas Cards
Posted by Kate on December 16th, 2008. Filed under: Musings.Sending Christmas cards to friends and family is always a daunting task. The holiday season is a busy time, and I seem to leave writing Christmas cards till the last minute. I’ve thought about giving up on the whole process, but I love getting Christmas cards so I feel it would be a bit unfair if I only got them and never gave them.
A friend suggested that I eliminate Christmas cards from my holiday list of things to do, and instead, donate the money I spend on cards and postage to a charity. This seemed like a wonderful idea, but I still felt a need to reach out to family and friends to wish them a wonderful holiday season. Fortunately, a recent Daily Candy update offered a way to combine both giving to those in need and sending Christmas cards to loved ones this holiday season. Here is the information I received from Daily Candy:

Robin Hood Holiday Card
What: DailyCandy designed. Ready for snail mail.
Why: One hundred percent of your contribution helps fight poverty in NYC.
When: ‘Tis the season.
Where: Online at robinhood.org.
I was able to buy cute Christmas cards through Robin Hood, a nonprofit organization targeting poverty in New York City, which I sent to family and friends. The money I spent on the cards went to fighting poverty in New York, and I was able to send out great holiday cards.
Robin Hood offered three different cards to choose from, and the inside of each card said: “A generous donation to Robin Hood has been made in your honor.” Below is the card I choose to send to family and friends:

Hopefully, more people will learn about Christmas cards that help those in need and make buying those cards a part of their holiday tradition.
